The department of the Chemistry of Natural Compounds carries out research on the initiative subjects: "Study of medicinal, agricultural plants, synthesis of natural flavonoid, anthraquinone, cardenolid, coumarin analogues and creation of medicines with various biological action on their basis”. The main research objects are agricultural, fruit and berry plants and new varieties of medicinal plants.

The department is occupied with:

 – isolation of individual compound with the help of physical and chemical methods;

 – determination of spatial structure of biologically active compounds by the means of mass-spectroscopy, various types of optical spectroscopy (IR-, UV-, laser), roentgen-structural analysis, nuclear magnetic resonance, electronic paramagnetic resonance, dispersion of optical rotation, fast kinetic methods;

 – chemical synthesis and chemical modification of studied compounds, including complete synthesis and analogue and derivatives synthesis for the purpose of structure confirmation, determination of the connection of the structure with biological functions;

 – receiving substances with the purpose of creation medicines on their basis;

 – development of Ukrainian Technical Terms for medicines, dietary supplements, raw material of animal origin;

 – development and conducting of quality control methods for plant raw material, medicines;

 – biological testing coordination of received compounds in vitro and in vivo;
